default ZIP code, coupons.

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

While writing the coupon features that are coming soon to a hngry near you, I ended up writing something else that has been asked for:  the ability to set a default location (in this case the ZIP code) for where you live.  This will be automatically used by any hngry features that require information on your location. So far, those features are automatic restaurant lookup (you’ll only have to put in the name of the restaurant now, unless you want to specify a ZIP code or city/state, in which case hngry will use that instead), and the upcoming coupon search feature (which will pull up all online restaurant coupons that are availble where you live. )

Default ZIP codes should be live this weekend, and coupon features will be going up soon after that.  I’ll let you know here when they are.

Sorting.

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

Now, when you log into hngry and get your restaurant list (either paginated or all on one page), you can sort your restaurants by rating or alphabetically (ascending or descending).  Just click on the column title in the blue header (to sort by ratings, click “Rating”) and it’ll sort your list in ascending order.  Click again and it’ll sort it in descending order. That’s it!

I made a few little fixes here and there today too, just making the site more stable and (hopefully) easier to use.

If you have any suggestions for things you’d like to see, feel free to leave a comment here.  I’d love to hear them.

Tightening and refining… and coupons!

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Right now I’m working on refining some features that hngry currently has, such as the restaurant listing pages, and adding things like this:

Alphabetical listings of restaurants
Viewing restaurants by rating

And I’m also working on some really cool features to help you keep track of your restaurant coupons. We have multiple coupon books at home at any given time. We go through them and get coupons out of them that we think it’d be nice to use, but end up forgetting about them until after they expire. Hngry aims to solve that problem, and a few others related to coupons with some new features that will hopefully make hngry even more useful to you (and hopefully save you some money when you go out to eat!)

I’m excited!

Hngry has tags!

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

Hngry now has tagging enabled on every restaurant.  On each restaurant edit page, there is now a tag field.  Put as many tags as you’d like in that field, separated by spaces.  Then, you can view a tag cloud of all available tags on your newly enabled tag page, which will allow you to view all restaurants that have a particular tag, so you can organize your restaurants by whatever you’d like.  Happy tagging!
I’ll be refining tagging in the next week or so, so if you have any suggestions after you’ve used it for a little bit, please leave a comment here or email me at eat@hngry.com.
