For all you road warriors…

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Now I’m finally working on features that will let you search for places to eat wherever you happen to be traveling to. These places will be recommended/rated by other Hngry members, so you know they’re going to be good!

Event invitations, emailing restaurant info to friends

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Now you’ve got the ability to email information about any of your restaurants to your friends!  Why is this useful?  Say you’re throwing a party at a restaurant that’s on your list…  all you’ve got to do is go to your restaurant list and click on the magnifying glass on the side of the restaurant you want to email.  This will take you to the Detailed Information page.  You’ll see this icon, a little envelope with an arrow on top of it .  Click that, and you’ll be taken to a page where you can not only pick from a list of your hngry friends to email, you can type in up to 25 more email addresses, separated by commas, of course.  You also get a box for more details, like time, place, etc, and whatever other info you’d like to add to the email.  When you’re done, click send and your restaurant details are emailed to everyone  you’ve selected.  You get a copy as well.

Happy emailing!

Friends!

The first few of quite a few friends features is here!  You can now invite your friends to hngry, and when they sign up, you’ll automatically be friended on hngry as well.  You can also share your restaurants with your friends and they can share theirs with you, and either of you can add any of your friends’ restaurants to your own list.  Of course, you can block/unblock friends as well.
To use the friends feature, just log in to hngry and look for the new icon and section named “Friends!”
It’s time to invite your friends to hngry!   It’s time for me to go to bed.  :)

Magnets!

Monday, July 10th, 2006

So i’ve been using the coupon reminder feature to remind me before my coupons expire.. and I realized, hey, i don’t really have a way to keep track of where the coupons are so that I can use them when hngry reminds me. So I set up a CafePress shop and made a couple of hngry magnets that I can use to keep all of my hngry coupons on the fridge.

They’re available in blue, red, gray and green, but since I only have a free account right now and it only lets me put up one design at a time for each product, I’ll be rotating them out each week for the next few weeks. Right now you can get a pack of 10 red hngry magnets without the tagline on them for $10.99, or individual blue ones for $2.49 each with the tagline on the bottom. I’ll post here when I change the magnet colors.

The prices are not marked up at all from the CafePress base prices.. I just want you to be able to have a tangible extension of hngry that you can put to some use, for a reasonable price. Pick some up! Give a few to your friends.

Here’s how the blue ones look in real life.

Friends, restaurant sharing, event invitations!

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

I know there’s been a bit of radio silence around here for a little while now, but I promise it’s been because I’ve been busy programming my fingers off.  I spent the Independence Day holiday programming up a framework that will allow you to add other hngry users as your friends very very soon.  Around the same time you’ll also be able to email restaurant details (including a map to the restaurant if you’ve auto-added it from within hngry) to anyone, whether they’re defined as a hngry user or you just have their email address… this means that if you’re meeting a bunch of friends for lunch somewhere, you can log into hngry, pick a restaurant, select some friends, enter some email addresses if they’re not all on hngry yet, add whatever details you like, and hit Send.   Hngry will then email everyone the details on the restaurant for you.  Nice.

What else?  Building on top of the friends framework, you’ll be able to share your restaurant list with your friends, and vice versa.  If you see a restaurant on your friend’s list that you’d like to add to yours,  with one click, you’ve got it too.

I’m working on some last details and making these features secure, but soon they will be here!

Now I’m off to a wedding. :)
